Another Upbeat Song About A Feeling Dump: Smoke From A Distant Fire By The Sanford Townsend Band

For some reason, when I listened to the songs of the 70's and 80's, even if they're about depressing for some reason, they're still very upbeat. As if even though something bad happened, it's like better luck next time. A good example of this is in my entry of REO Speedwagon's song "Out Of Season". The song was full energy and cheerful even though the message was about the break-up of a relationship. Another song that was a similar that had a similar message was "Smoke From A Distant Fire" by he Sanford Townsend Band.

This was back in the days when the band was complete with horns, keyboards, guitars and drums. More importantly, everybody was giving it all that they got. Despite the depressing message of uncovering an affair, for some reason, this song is so upbeat. If I was listening to this guys in a bar, I'd probably drank a whole case of beer and not be drunk because this so cool. The music really gets to you that you don't the message of the song quite the opposite.

It was only during the 90's that the true expression of anger and angst was really made known in song. Still, whether I heard this song in the past or in the present, it rocks! That's the essence of what 24K songs are all about. They don't make them like this anymore. I pity the younger generation for it.
