Chilling Out And Having A Good Time: Cherry Bomb By John Mellencamp

When I was young one thing that I liked about the weekends is that feeling of chilling out and relaxing as the hot sun starts to set and the cools starts to blow a little more. We'd break out the beer and let the party begin till all the brews were gone. Out of nowhere our friends would just drop by and before you know it, we have a full-blown party. At times like that, it was great way to chase the week's blues away. When I hear the song "Cherry Bomb" by John Mellencamp, that good old feeling always creeps into me.

When we had nothing to do and nowhere to go, we get whatever money we had left and get a few cases of beer and there you have it, instant party. We didn't have any fancy sound system so we just fired up the car stereo and all the good tunes (including 24K hits) filled the late afternoons. Then we'd recall all the good times that we had in the past and laugh of all of the silly antics and our friends who equally bored would join in and the day was set. It may not have been the fanciest of parties but with all your friends and brothers there, what more could one ask for? Man, those were cool times.

Though we seldom drink nowadays, the times will always be with me. Sometimes when the cool afternoon winds start to blow, the memories of those times suddenly come alive in my mind. The stronger the wind, the more vivid the memories become. That's why when we gather, we live it up as best as we can on the times when we get to see each other. What matters is that when we're together, we feel good and that's good enough.
