What Home Is: A House Is Not Home By Luther Vandross

There's a reason why we have a saying "Home Sweet Home".  That's because when the day is over, the first thing we want to do is go home.  When we arrive, there's a warm reception and we gather at the table and talk about what we have done with people we care.  That is what home is.  A great definition of what a home is can be found in the song "A House Is Not A Home" by Luther Vandross.

Houses come in all shapes and sizes.  Some can be very simple while others have all the luxuries fit for a king.  Still, a house can only be called a home if everyone in it is happy.  Even when things go roughly, when you gather at the end of the day, you feel the warmth from  the people you live with.  You still smile laugh and share things and most important of all, stand by each other and that is what gets you through the rough times.  That is what makes a home.

You can have a grand palace but if you don't feel going back after the day's end then there's something wrong.  When you feel empty once you get in, you know it's not a home.  At best, it something that will give you shelter from the elements and a place to crash.  When that happy atmosphere isn't there. then it's just four walls and a roof.  That's just a house not a home.
