Looking Out For Myself: Looking Out For Number 1 By Bachman Turner Overdrive (BTO)
Before UFC 101, I remember reading an interview of B.J. Penn about pleasing people. He quoted Bill Cosby as saying something about pleasing people is the road to failure. Some people would think of that as something selfish, but in reality happy people and successful people are the ones who first were able to focus on themselves as to what they want and pressing on until they achieve what they wanted. Sometimes if you keep giving in to other people, you wind up going nowhere. I guess that's what Bachman Turner Overdrive was trying to stay in their song "Looking Out For Number 1"
It's not that people are selfish, it's just that there comes a time where you have to decide to do something for yourself. You have find your own path and your own interest if you want to be happy in life. Even in religion class, I remember our teacher telling us that you have to know yourself, then others and finally God. Finding one's self enables one to find his or her purpose in the world. Once they do that they can do anything. It's only when you are capable of handling yourself when you can start taking care of others.
People who often give in to what other people say are often the ones who are miserable. The comes a time when a person should be given the right to pursue his or her own happiness. Otherwise, they will always be incomplete and worse they will miserable due to the fac that the life they are living is a lie. Those are the saddest people on this earth. I guess that's the reason why I agree with the Dauphin when he said that self-love is not so great a sin as self-neglect.
