Rowdy Teenage Days: Johnny Can't Read By Don Henley

When you look at kids today, you often shake your head as the simplest way to keep your blood pressure down. You wonder why these kids are clueless about what's happening around them. Then again, when you look back at the days of your youth, things were not much different. There may be a lot more distractions but everyone was so care-free. Songs like Don Henley's "Johnny Can't Read" reminds me of those times.

Back then, most of us were pretty restless. We didn't listen to our teachers and even if red marks abound our report cards, it didn't matter. All that mattered was what was going down on the weekend, the new style or gadget or if there was anything going with our classmates. Pretty much trivial stuff and with the summer drawing near, we were even more clueless than ever. Still, what do you expect from kids at that stage in life.

These days, it's a different story. We are so caught with life's daily struggles that we forget that we were once that way. One thing that worries me though, is that if there was too many distractions then and more so now, what kind of distractions can we expect in the future? Well we outgrew it and they will too. That's part of life I guess.
