It Starts With Rebelling But Ends With Improving: My Back Pages By Bob Dylan

When you're younger, you think you know better than anybody. One way of showing it is by often rebelling against the system and acting all wild. Then one day, you realize that what you're doing is a waste of time and the only person you're fighting against is yourself. That's when you finally let go of your rebellious stage and finally settle down. When it comes from being idealistic to being more wiser through the years, the song "My Back Pages" by Bob Dylan comes to mind.
Every generation wants to leave it's mark and the first thing they do is rebel against the present system. The funny part about it is that as they change the system, they don't realize that they are just contributing to it. Along the the lines, they have no idea that they are being part of it even as they rebel against. When age starts to mellow them, they realize that there was some wisdom in the institution that they wanted to change all along. In the end, it makes them smarter for realizing it.

I guess Friedrich Nietzche was right about battling monsters. In this case, the more you battle the system the more you become part of it. Even you do retain your rebel appearance, the fact that you've made your mark in the system proves that you're part of it. Still your changes in the system made improvements in it which will benefit others. In the end, it's not about changing but improving the system that keeps it going.
