Real Badass Song About Whipping Evil: The Devil Went Down To Georgia By The Charlie Daniels Band
Once in a while you really hear a song that catches your attention no matter what genre it is. This is especially true if it's a badass song about rising up to the challenge and kicking the crap out of the bad guy who came in and invaded your space. Songs like that really get the adrenalin pumping that all your fears leave your body when some throws the gauntlet at you. It gets better when you take up the gauntlet and give the jerk a sound beating. That's the feeling I get when I hear the song "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band.
It tells the story about the devil came to Georgia to challenger a fiddler named Johnny to duel of music. If Johnny won, the devil would give him a fiddle made of gold, but if he loses, the devil gets his soul. As the duel begins, the devil played a mean number that would have made any challenger tremble. Johnny, however, was not afraid and when he played he blew the devil away. Admitting defeat, the devil laid down that golden fiddle to Johnny feet and that's what I call a good ending.
They don't make songs like these anymore about simple people rising up to the challenge and kicking the crap out of the bad guy. These days, they make songs where villain is the victim and it's the victim's fault which makes for very twisted logic. I guess that's why I long for the old days when bad guys were really bad and the good guys stood to them and won. Songs like that are now becoming a dying breed. These days we are willing to let bad people have their way and corrupt values that would have made the world better. I wish there were more songs like these to remind people that evil is evil and that ARE GOOD PEOPLE out there are not afraid and will overcome it if they were challenged by it.
