Political Correctness Killed Them: Where Have All The Cowboys Gone By Paula Cole

I remember a scene from the movie "Fight Club" where Brad Pitt and Edward Norton where having a conversation about their fathers and their plans for the futures. Everything was going on fine until the part about marriage and family where they couldn't bring themselves to answer that question. What struck me about that part was the fact that they wouldn't know because they were raised by their mothers and that they were a generation of men raised by women. When I think about that lack of a strong male model, I remember the song "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" by Paula Cole.

One of the reasons why I don't watch movies anymore is because I don't see any male character worthy of being a role model. Many of them are either insecure, arrogant, clueless or complete jackasses. A lot of times, the females are stronger than the males and it seems that they have switched roles in some cases. Even worse, a lot of times, the male protagonists often has to get his ass kicked and has to fight under restraint if he does get a chance to fight. No wonder people long for the old actors who are long gone cause their characters wouldn't take this crap.

So wonder whatever happened to characters that John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson, Bruce Lee and all the other great icons that they use to play? Political correctness killed them, that's what! Today's characters often have to make accomodations or worse give ground or get beat up because today's mode of thinking have outlawed the real heroes would call things the way they see it without the b@#$#% keeping them tied up! The characters of today just don't appeal to me because they are either too naive or just plain jerks! I fear if this will keep up, there will be no more great heroes to look up to.
