Last Week Of School: Goodbye, Goodbye By Oingo Boingo

You know I've been so stressed out lately that it just hit me that it's the last week of school.  For seniors of elementary, high school and college, they're probably rehearsing everyday for graduation while the others are now taking their final exams hoping to make the grade as the school year draws to a close.  Once it's over, the party will be breaking out night after night as students bid goodbye to another school year.  This signals the start of the summer vacation and as kids are now free to play, roam and have fun.  Whenever the school year starts to end,  the song "Goodbye, Goodbye" by Oingo Boingo comes to mind.

I get this idea every time I see the last party scene in the movie "Fast Times At Ridgemont High"  where Jeff Spicoli and his crew come rushing in and they join the party after school year has ended.  I remember the good old days after the last test paper has been passed and you know it's enough to keep you out of summer class.   You rush out of that classroom and shout for joy for you are finally free.  What follows next is three months of unbridled fun where you where you want to go and do what you want to do.  Best of all you can stay up all night and sleep all day since there's no school day or school night.

For freshmen, sophomore and juniors, it's a time to party like there's no tomorrow while seniors in high school and college, it's a transition phase to a new level in their lives.  Graduating high school students now choose the path that they want to go to while college kids now enter the real world.  For those who are in clear, savor every minute of your vacation and savor the company of your friends.  You've earned it after a year of studying and waking up early everyday.  Just be careful not to lose your head cause you might over do it.  Happy summer kids and have fun while it lasts.

It Sucks That it's Off The Air: Goodbye By The Sundays

a  taken off the air.  They told me that the station was again making some changes.  My heart really sank when I heard the news. It was one of the few things that brightened things up for me during these tough times and now they're taking that away from me.  Hearing go off the air once again reminds me of the song "Goodbye" by The Sundays.

Man, even though my brothers tell to just download and save the songs that I like, it's different when you hear it on air.  You get to share it with everyone and they realize how good those song are, they too would also want to hear it again and again.  The fact that that shows has largest collection of old and rare hits is another reason why I listen to it every weekend.  Most of important of all, they reflect the memories of good times that I had when I was growing up.  I never tire of listening to them for they take me back in time and the past comes alive.

Well I guess I won't be charging my MP4 player for a while and my cellphone's battery need not be drained during Saturdays as the program that I love goes off the air yet again.  Still a program that good won't stay off the air for long.  I am crossing my fingers and will patiently wait for its return.  For now I again say goodbye to an old friend that has made me feel good all these years.

When Things Come To An End: Goodbye By The Spice Girls

you listen to the playlist of 24K, sometimes it strikes you that more and more new songs are now being aired on the program. Songs that were once brand new have now joined the ranks of 24K. Whenever that happens, I get the feeling the feeling that another era has ended and sadly another band, artist or group has called it a day. I guess all things come to an end, eventually. One song that signifies that is "Goodbye" by The Spice Girls.

I remember during the mid-90's when these girls burst into the music scene, they defined girl power during that decade. They were making one hit after another and it seemed that they were here to stay. Then one of their members broke off from the group. When this song came out, it was an announcement that they were calling it quits. I guess a lot of people were surprise to learn the news.

I guess it's that old lesson that nothing lasts forever. One moment you're there and the next moment you're gone. Though I'm not a fan, it saddens me when a group or an artists suddenly disappears from the scene, especially after all the work they put in and the impact that they have. Well, I hope they're doing okay right now. I hope they're happy with what they're doing now because they deserve it after all that hard work.
